Sterling Silver Jewelry Care

ErosMoon only uses sterling silver—the highest quality standard for silver in the industry.

Unlike pure silver, sterling silver is an alloy, or mixture, of 92.5% pure silver with copper to enhance its luster, strength, and durability. Like many metals, copper is more susceptible to oxidation or rusting, and this chemical reaction is what causes the sterling silver to tarnish at surface level.

Sterling silver tarnishes when exposed to salty air, chlorine, sulphur, humidity, perspiration and household bleach and other strong chemicals. Cosmetics and fragrances can also negatively affect the finish of sterling silver and direct contact should be avoided. Like other precious metals, sterling silver will require cleaning from time to time. To prevent tarnish as much as possible, we recommend that you store your fine jewelry in a safe, dry place when engaging in the following activities:

Household and outdoor chores (i.e., cleaning and gardening)

Showering, bathing or swimming in pools, hot tubs, hot springs and the ocean

Grooming yourself with lotion, hair products, fragrances, and other cosmetics

Exercising at the gym or during contact sports

 Preparing meals

Fortunately, sterling silver is easy to clean in a few simple steps as tarnish is only ever on the surface of the metal.

How to Clean Sterling Silver

  1. Apply a small amount of a silver jewelry cleaner-polish Goddard's/Wrights or a polish of your choice, to a soft cloth. To give your sterling silver a quick clean you can use a Talk of the Town polishing kit www.towntalkpolish.com
  1. Gently rub the silver with the cloth several times.
  1. Rinse the silver thoroughly in warm water.
  1. Blot dry and polish your silver with a lint-free cloth or mitt. This will remove the tarnish and restore shine, keeping your sterling silver like new.
